Neil Milward: Counsellor/Psychotherapist * CBT & NLP Therapist * Hypnotherapist

Neil Milward is a highly experienced counsellor with comprehensive expertise across a wide range of therapeutic areas. His practice encompasses support for individuals facing challenges such as anxiety, anger management, gambling addiction, phobias, pain management, stress management, and issues related to sexual trauma and abuse. Neil’s specialist knowledge extends to working with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), providing Mental Health First Aid in workplace settings, and offering targeted interventions for gambling addiction and survivors of sexual trauma and abuse.

Transitioning into counselling in his early forties, Neil brought a wealth of life experience from a previous career in engineering. This unique background has informed his approach, enabling him to integrate cognitive strategies and hypnotherapy into his practice. Neil is committed to helping clients develop effective coping mechanisms, set clear goals, and work towards positive outcomes. His method is structured yet empathetic, focusing on practical solutions tailored to each individual’s needs.

Neil’s dedication to supporting others was further shaped by his involvement with the British Red Cross. During his time with the organisation, he discovered a natural affinity for people-oriented roles. As a member of the inaugural British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service in Dorset, Neil provided critical on-site assistance during crisis incidents. His responsibilities included delivering temporary shelter, food, drink, and clothing to both victims and emergency service operatives. This experience reinforced his commitment to helping those in distress and highlighted his ability to remain calm and resourceful under pressure.

Voluntary work has been a cornerstone of Neil’s professional journey. Through these roles, he developed a passion for supporting vulnerable individuals and making a meaningful difference in their lives. Neil’s empathetic approach and genuine desire to serve others have enabled him to build strong, trusting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds. He is particularly skilled at helping those who feel marginalised or at risk, empowering them to regain confidence and resilience.

Neil’s path to becoming a counsellor was not a conventional one. Rather than actively seeking the profession, he found himself drawn to it after enrolling in an introductory counselling course. His initial aim was to enhance his interpersonal and relational skills, but he quickly realised that counselling aligned perfectly with his natural strengths and values. Recognising his aptitude for supporting others, Neil chose to dedicate himself fully to professional training in counselling.

Today, Neil is recognised for his holistic and client-centred approach. He combines evidence-based techniques with a deep understanding of the complexities of human behaviour. Neil’s practice is informed by ongoing professional development and a commitment to ethical standards. He works collaboratively with clients to identify their goals, develop personalised strategies, and foster lasting change.

Neil’s expertise is sought after by individuals and organisations alike. He offers counselling services that address both immediate concerns and long-term wellbeing. Whether working with clients facing acute crises or those seeking personal growth, Neil provides a safe, supportive environment where individuals can explore their challenges and build resilience.

Neil’s professional journey reflects a blend of technical acumen, compassionate service, and a steadfast commitment to mental health. His diverse experience, specialist training, and genuine care for others position him as a trusted counsellor dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those he serves.

Neil provided the support I needed while living abroad and facing changes at home. He was very kind and understanding of schedule changes and long breaks between sessions. I felt like he really listened and connected themes from all of our sessions.

Neil is an exceptional provider. I truly hope others in my position have the opportunity to talk to such a kind, thoughtful, and experienced provider. He is amazing at what he does, and I really cannot thank him enough for the counseling that I received while living in a foreign country with many challenges. This service was so integral to my positive experience abroad.

Neil was absolutely fantastic. I generally don't enjoy virtual therapy but it was my best option since I'm in Colombia on a fulbright grant and my spanish is limited. Neil was brilliant and supportive and I adored all of our sessions together. His insights on anxiety were literally life changing. I can't say enough good things about Neil. I adore him. He helped me so much.

Neil did a good job in helping me walk through past trauma. He also helped me figure out tools and strategies to deal with my trauma after discussing them in detail.
