Bereavement & Loss Counselling

Compassionate support through grief, loss, and change

Grief is a natural response to loss, but it can feel overwhelming, isolating, and deeply personal. There is no right way to grieve, no set timeline, and no single experience of loss.

At Poole Therapies, we offer compassionate bereavement and loss counselling for people navigating grief in its many forms. Our therapists provide a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore your experience at your own pace.

Understanding Bereavement and Loss

Loss can arise in many different ways. While bereavement is often associated with the death of someone important, people also grieve other significant losses, including:

  • Relationship breakdown or separation

  • Loss of health, identity, or independence

  • Pregnancy loss or fertility-related grief

  • Loss linked to trauma or sudden change

  • Anticipatory grief or complicated grief

Each loss carries its own emotional weight. Your grief is valid, whatever form it takes.

How Therapy Can Help

Bereavement counselling is not about fixing grief or moving you on before you are ready. Instead, therapy offers a space to:

  • Speak openly about your loss

  • Explore emotions such as sadness, anger, guilt, or numbness

  • Make sense of changes in identity or relationships

  • Find ways to carry your grief alongside daily life

  • Honour your connection to what or who has been lost

Support can be helpful whether your loss is recent or many years in the past.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Our therapists work with grief in a person-centred, compassionate, and trauma-informed way. This means we respect that grief does not follow stages or schedules and that people may move back and forth between different emotional states.

Therapy may involve:

  • Gentle reflection and meaning-making

  • Supporting emotional regulation

  • Working with memory and continuing bonds

  • Exploring impact on relationships and sense of self

Sessions are guided by your needs and readiness.
